Black Joe Brand Vintage Zinfandel Grape Crate Label, older, 28 lbs

This fruit crate label was used by Ed Kurtz, Lodi, California.  Image of African American, used for Zinfandel wine grapes.  On wine grapes for red wine, the darker the better, a sign of maturity.  This label would have gone on a crate of juice grapes, grapes shipped back east and sold to home wine makers.  They generally shipped in 36 pound crates and people would buy a few crates for making wine.
